I already knew I could write because I had been doing so for some time and had had the sort of positive feedback from friends that you know isn't just them being nice, and good feedback from literary agents, but the thought of a total stranger reading my book was a whole different ball game! It must be even harder for some new writers these days who have not had the experience of actually finding out if they've got any talent first. Perhaps that explains why some of the very best 'indies' I have discovered don't seem to realise how good they actually are :)<br /><br />I've found the best way of getting over lack of confidence is just to DO IT.
